Tico Torres
Tico Torres (* 7. October 1953 in New York City , USA as Hector Samuel Juan Torres ) is an American musician and painter . Since 1984 he has been the drummer for the rock band Bon Jovi .
Life
Tico Torres was born in New York to Cuban immigrants, but grew up in Iselin, New Jersey, USA . Due to his origins, he is bilingual and speaks fluent Spanish as well as English.
After leaving school, he began training as a carpenter. This was quickly abandoned in favor of music. Before joining Bon Jovi, Torres was already a successful (studio) musician and worked with Chuck Berry , Miles Davis , Cher and Pat Benatar , among others . He has worked on a total of 26 albums before joining Bon Jovi.
Tico Torres has been the drummer of the band Bon Jovi since 1984 and is part of the band's regular line-up. The contact came through the longtime bassist of Bon Jovi, Alec John Such , with whom Torres was friends. Although most of the band's songs are written by Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora , Tico Torres has contributed significantly to the typical sound of the band and shaped their style through his drum and percussion arrangements.
Tico Torres usually uses a Pearl Drums drum kit. On the 2013 "Because We Can" tour, Tico plays a DW drum kit. He also uses products from Paiste, Easton Ahead, Remo Powerstroke and Coated Emperors. He has continuously developed many components of his drum kit, and so today Pearl Drums or Easton Ahead have their own product lines that bear his name. In the mid-1980s, "Drumming Essentials" was also created, an educational video for drummers in which Torres explains various drum techniques and exercises.
In the early 1990s, Tico Torres began to paint and discovered sculpture for himself. In terms of style, many of his pieces are reminiscent of the German Expressionists. First exhibitions in New York and Miami in 1994/95 were great successes. Today Torres is a recognized contemporary painter and sculptor whose works fetch prices around $ 12,000.
In 2005 he brought out his own children's fashion collection called Rock Star Baby (RSB). In addition to children's clothing, he developed his own silver jewelry collection and children's furniture under the same label. His furniture collection was nominated for an award at the furniture fair in Cologne in January 2006.
Tico Torres is an accomplished golfer and frequently participates in charity golf tournaments. Aviation is one of his other hobbies: Torres holds a private pilot's license.
Tico Torres married for the third time. His first marriage to Sharon Torres was divorced in 1985. In 1995 he got engaged to the Czech model Eva Herzigová , on September 7, 1996 the wedding followed in Sea Brights, NJ, at which the bandmates Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were best witnesses. The marriage was divorced in 1999. On September 24, 2001, Tico Torres married Maria Alejandra Marquez, their son Hector Alexander was born on January 10, 2004.
