Blaze of Glory (Engl. For: " Glanz und Gloria ") is the first solo album by Jon Bon Jovi , the front man of the band Bon Jovi . It is the soundtrack to the western film Blaze of Glory and went double platinum in the US and Canada and gold in the UK.

Emergence

After the grueling world tours in connection with the successes of Slippery When Wet and New Jersey , Bon Jovi initially took a break in early 1990. Both Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora and David Bryan each released a solo album during this time.

Jon Bon Jovi was asked if Wanted Dead or Alive (a single from the album Slippery When Wet ) could be used as the theme song for the film Blaze of Glory, originally called Young Guns II . But after Jon Bon Jovi had seen the film, he contributed an entire album, inspired by him, which was eventually used as the official soundtrack.

Music genre

Musically the album is similar to the other albums that Jon Bon Jovi made with his band: heavier sounds with catchy melodies. However, the music has a strong Western influence. In terms of content, it is more aggressive than the usual band sound and deals with the lives of cowboys , outlaws and, last but not least, with killing and being killed. On the DVD of the box set 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong , Jon Bon Jovi says that for a long time he related the album's aggressiveness to the Billy the Kids story , which the film is about, but then admitted that it came more from his own emotional world.

The reviews of the album have been mixed to negative. However, the soundtrack was nominated for an Oscar and a Grammy . The theme song won a Golden Globe .
