The list of hard rock and metal albums that reached number one in the Austrian charts includes music albums of the hard rock and metal genres , which took top position in the Ö3 Austria Top 40 determined by GfK Entertainment . All types of music albums such as studio albums, live albums, compilations or soundtracks are included. So far, 73 metal and hard rock albums have reached number one on the Austrian album charts. The album charts were determined for the first time in 1970, but at that time according to a different system. The information from 1970 is therefore not necessarily representative, but has been included for the sake of completeness.
