Five Finger Death Punch (sometimes abbreviated to FFDP or 5FDP ) is an American metal band from Las Vegas , Nevada. The band name refers to the martial arts film Zhao - The Invincible (1972). During live performances, lead singer Ivan Moody often holds his hands instead of a fist or metal horns in a pose that suggests that made-up kung fu gesture.
history
Five Finger Death Punch was founded in 2005 by guitarist Zoltán Báthory together with drummer Jeremy Spencer. They brought in singer Ivan Moody (formerly Motograter / Ghost Machine / Black Blood Orchestra), guitarist Caleb Bingham and bassist Matt Snell shortly afterwards. Bingham was replaced by Darrell Roberts in 2007, who in turn was replaced by Jason Hook in 2009. In 2011 the separation from Snell followed, who was replaced by Chris Kael.
The band recorded their debut album The Way of the Fist in 2006 with Stevo "Shotgun" Bruno and Mike Sarkisyan. The recording was mixed and directed by Logan Mader ( Machine Head / Soulfly ). In June it was announced that the band had signed a contract with “Firm Music”, which belongs to “The Firm” ( Korn , Staind , Limp Bizkit ). The debut album was released on July 31, 2007.
The second album, War Is the Answer , was released on September 22nd, 2009 in the USA. The first single from it was called "Hard to See". Their single "Walk Away" was used for the 2010 PPV Lockdown of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling .
The song "Dying Breed" was used in 2010 for the soundtrack of the horror / action video game Splatterhouse , "Hard to See" can be played in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock . The song "Far from Home" is played in the television series Criminal Minds in season 6, episode 10.
The third album, American Capitalist , was released on October 11, 2011 .
On July 26, 2013, the first part of the fourth album, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, was released . The second part was published in Germany on November 15, 2013.
On May 1, 2015, there was a heated argument on stage at a concert in Memphis , Tennessee . After singer Ivan Moody made fun of Jeremy Spencer, the band left the stage. After Moody, left alone, entertained the audience, the band tried a few more times to continue the concert. After the final breakup, rumors of separation emerged, but these were rejected by FFDP. Moody apologized and the tour continued.
On June 12, 2017, Moody often left the stage at a concert in Tilburg , two songs had to be sung by Tommy Vext . The band announced that the rest of the European tour will be performed with Vext as a singer.
On December 18, 2018, drummer Jeremy Spencer announced that he would be leaving the band after 14 years of service. The reason he gave was that he was no longer physically able to continue to be active for the band. Previously, he had to sit out due to a back operation during the co-headlining tour with Breaking Benjamin .
