The Jewish cemetery Floridsdorf in Vienna - Floridsdorf was the initial project of the Israelitische Cultusgemeinde Floridsdorf, which was officially founded in 1880, and - after Floridsdorf became part of Vienna in 1904 - it belongs to the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien .

location

The cemetery is located at Ruthnergasse 26 and near the Weeping Bridge of the Floridsdorfer Hochbahn , which borders the southern side of the cemetery.

history

The cemetery was probably planned and built in 1876, and was the initial project of the Israelitische Cultusgemeinde Floridsdorf, which was destroyed along with its synagogue in Holzmeistergasse during the National Socialist era . The first burial was on June 2, 1877. The cemetery was officially closed in 1978, and since then burials have only been possible with a special permit.

The cemetery is cared for on a private initiative with the support of the district council, the Chewra Kadischa and the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien. There are no regular opening times, but the now listed ( list entry ) cemetery can be visited in consultation with the IKG Vienna.
