Karl Schlecht (born October 28, 1932 in Bernhausen ) is a German entrepreneur and founder of the Karl Schlecht Foundation .

He grew up as the son of a plasterer in Bernhausen near Stuttgart . Badly attended the Progymnasium in Hohenheim up to the secondary school leaving certificate and in 1952 made his Abitur at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Degerloch . In 1958, while still a student at the Technical University of Stuttgart, he founded the KS-Maschinenbau company for the production of plastering machines . His first machine, built for his father's business, became the subject of his thesis.

With the “Gipsomat”, the company, which has since been renamed Putzmeister , brought the world's first automatic plastering machine onto the market. Today, Putzmeister is the world's largest manufacturer of concrete pumps with almost 4,000 employees and an annual turnover of more than one billion euros.

In 1998, Karl Schlecht withdrew from the operational business of Putzmeister and took over the chairmanship of the company's supervisory board . In October 1998 he founded the Karl Schlecht Foundation (KSG) as a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Aichtal near Stuttgart, to which he transferred 99 percent of the company's shares. At the same time, a family foundation was established, to which 1 percent was transferred.

Accompanied by local protests, Karl Schlecht announced on January 30, 2012 that he had transferred the shares of his foundations in Putzmeister AG to the Chinese construction machinery group Sany Corp. has sold. The deal was considered the largest German-Chinese transaction to date and was the first sale by a German world market leader to Chinese competition. Today the takeover is seen as a positive example of a German-Chinese merger.

In recognition of his entrepreneurial achievements, Karl Schlecht was made an Honorary Senator of the University of Hohenheim in 2002. In 2011 he also received the Diesel Medal. He holds a professorship from Tongji University in Shanghai.

He is a member of the student union AG Sonderbund Stuttgart.
