Limp Bizkit is a Founded in 1994, American nu-metal - band from Jacksonville , Florida . The band has sold more than 50 million records so far, including over 40 million albums.

history

The beginnings (1994–1997)

The band was founded in 1994 in Jacksonville , Florida ( USA ) by front man Fred Durst , bassist Sam Rivers and Rivers' drummer and cousin John Otto . However, the band name was not yet clear. This is where coincidence came into play: a friend of Durst said his brain felt like a “limp biscuit” (“limp biscuit”). “Biscuit” became “biscut” and with Wes Borland's entry into “Bizkit”. The name was born.

Fred Durst, singer

Even in the founding year, Fred Durst tattooed the Korn bassist Fieldy and made friends with him, even though Fred was drunk and instead tattooed the word “KoЯn” with the word “HoЯn”. Limp Bizkit made contact with the greats in show business early on . However , Korn first became aware of the music of the four punks at their next concert in Jacksonville, where Durst played them a demo tape. They enthusiastically organized tours for Limp Bizkit with House of Pain and the Deftones . During these tours House of Pains DJ Lethal befriended the band and decided to tour with them as House of Pain split up anyway. After the tours with the Deftones and House of Pain, the record labels tore themselves over Limp Bizkit, but only after some time did Durst choose the indie label Flip Records .

The first three albums (1997-2001)

Her debut album, Three Dollar Bill, Yall $ , released July 1, 1997, sold six million copies. The second album Significant Other , released in 1999, was an even bigger hit. Korn -singer Jonathan Davis , Wu-Tang Clans Method Man and Stone-Temple-Pilots -singer Scott Weiland contributed to this album, it sold 843,000 times in the first week alone, which made Limp Bizkit internationally very well known as a result of further sales were. In 1999 the band took part in the Woodstock III Festival, which further increased their popularity, mainly due to negative headlines. A third album called Limpdependence was announced for July 4, 2000, but the date had to be postponed to October 16, 2000 and the album was renamed Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water . Here, too, there were some prominent guests with Method Man, Redman , DMX and Xzibit . The album sold 1,054,511 times in its first week, a further increase from Significant Other's first week of sales. The band then began touring again.

Anger Management Tour and Pacific Rim Tour (2001-2002)

John Otto, drummer

On the Anger Management Tour they played with Eminem , Papa Roach and DMX. Immediately afterwards the Pacific Rim Tour started , their first world tour with appearances as headliners in Japan , New Zealand and Australia . A tragic death occurred at a concert in Australia on January 26, 2001, when Jessica Michalik, only 16 years old, suffered a heart attack and passed away. Despite obvious and voiced sorrow ( " really nothing can describe the sadness and anguish we are feeling" , in German: "Really nothing can describe the grief and the anguish that we feel") about this incident, they introduced the Anger Management Tour continues . Gigs in Germany and Ireland were canceled due to a back injury by Fred Durst. In 2001 there were only two concerts in Germany: one in Oberhausen and another on June 13th in Bremen.

For 2001 the release of a new album, Limp Remizkit, was announced, which should contain newly mixed - but familiar - songs. In autumn / winter 2001 the album was released under the name New Old Songs . However, guitarist Wes Borland left the band before the new album was released . After a lot of guesswork about the reasons, Borland spoke to the music broadcaster MTV about his exit: he would have only joined Limp Bizkit for the money. Since he was concerned with music, however, he and his colleagues from his second band Big Dumb Face founded the band Eat the Day , which later had to disband because no singer could be found.

Mike Smith and Results May Vary (2002-2004)

Limp Bizkit had to find a new guitarist. For this purpose, the fans on the “Tour” Put Your Guitar Where Your Mouth Is were given the chance to prove themselves in a 60-second session. When the tour ended on February 11, 2002 in Los Angeles , no replacement for Wes Borland had been found. With the production of the fourth album just around the corner, Fred Durst and Sam Rivers decided that they would first record the guitar parts themselves. For some songs, the guitar was also recorded by co-producer and sound engineer Michael Baskette . Shortly before the end of the recording of Results May Vary , former Snot guitarist Mike Smith, a musician with experience in Nu Metal , joined the band. In the middle of 2002, Fred Durst spoke up again. He wanted Wes to come back. He then gave his email address. Wes Borland then answered. He read the mail headers and it turned out that 75% were against a comeback.

Results May Vary's first single, Eat You Alive , was released on September 16, 2003 and hit record stores a week later. The second single was Behind Blue Eyes , the cover version of a classic by The Who , which also served as the soundtrack for the film " Gothika ". The main role is played by Halle Berry , who also appears in the accompanying music video together with Fred Durst. From June 1st to August 10th, 2003 Limp Bizkit went on the Summer Sanitarium tour as support together with Mudvayne , the Deftones, Linkin Park and Metallica . The Back To Basics Tour followed in autumn together with Korn . Limp Bizkit could be seen in Europe from February to April 2004.

Re-entry Borland and The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) (2004–2005)

Wes Borland with Limp Bizkit at Rock am Ring 2013

On August 13th, 2004 the old Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland was brought back into the band. Rumors have been circulating for a long time that he should rehearse with the band for the new album and on August 13, 2004 there was an official confirmation from Limp Bizkit. The recordings for The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) began together with the old troupe . At the beginning of 2005, drummer John Otto went to a rehabilitation clinic himself because of his drug problems. Samy Siegler , who was already a drummer for Glassjaw, stepped in for him . The publication of The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) should take place without any media support and there should be no single published. Based on the sales figures for Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water , The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) was less successful, selling around 250,000 times in the first week.

At the end of 2005, the greatest hits album Greatest Hitz was released, which, in addition to the most famous and successful pieces by the band, also contains the single song Home Sweet Home / Bittersweet Symphony , which is a cross (mash-up) of Mötley Crües Home Sweet Home and The Verve Bitter is Sweet Symphony . Also included are two other new tracks called Why and Lean on Me , which come from the Results-may-Vary period. At the same time the DVD Greatest Videoz was released, on which there are many music videos for the singles released. This album or this DVD was requested by the record company and was not wanted by Limp Bizkit.

Borland's side project (2005-2007)

The guitarist Wes Borland decided in 2005 to join the band "Black Light Burns" as lead singer, which also consists of well-known members of other bands (Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit), Danny Lohner ( Nine Inch Nails ), drummer Josh Freese ( A Perfect Circle ) and keyboardist Josh Eustis ( Tel Aviv Tel Aviv )). There were rumors that Borland was leaving Limp Bizkit because both his new band and Limp Bizkit were planning to tour in 2006. The reasons for this were that over time it became quiet around Limp Bizkit and the members of the band no longer had close contact with each other.

In response to an interview with Wes Borland in March 2006, in which he announced the dissolution of Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst announced that Limp Bizkit was not dissolved, but was developing a new sound. The band is looking for a replacement for Wes Borland. Since the end of this dispute between Wes Borland and Fred Durst, Fred Durst has published numerous unpublished songs on the MySpace portal. So far he has When It Rains (cannot be classified in any album), Crack Addict , Relentless , Cowgirls from Hell , Masterbation , Press Your Luck , Fool's Game (demo "Underneath The Gun"), Poison Ivy (all from the "Results May Vary" -Time), Until the End , Unacceptableinterlude , Space Invader and Say Something Sayable on his MySpace page to "shorten the waiting time for the new album".

Further development (2007-2009)

In March 2007, Fred Durst expressed another wish to reconcile with Wes Borland and to tour again via the MySpace portal. Borland then reiterated that all of his focus was now on Black Light Burns . After no news about the band's status had been published for a long time, several fan websites launched a large-scale protest against the band's information policy in May 2007, whereupon a new freestyle song called “Summer of Bipolar Love ”by Fred Durst.

In February 2008 a press release was published regarding the release of a live DVD from the 2001 Rock im Park concert . The DVD was released in Germany on April 25, 2008 (England: March 31, 2008; USA: May 15, 2008), with two different versions available. There was a CD / DVD version and a DVD version. The DVD contains the complete concert, an interview with DJ Lethal and a remix version of the concert. The DVD of the CD / DVD version only contains the remix version of the concert.

On February 12, 2009, Limp Bizkit announced in a blog post that they would be back in the original line-up in the future. This entry indicated that in addition to the already known performances at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in the spring, a world tour with numerous other headlining appearances at major festivals was planned.

Gold Cobra (2010-2011)

August 24, 2009 was the official start of recording the new album. Less than a month later, Fred Durst announced on Twitter that the instrumental recordings were ready. In a video on Fred Durst's Twitter page it was announced that Tom Green and Christopher Boykin would star on the new album. On November 30th, Fred Durst announced in an exclusive interview that the new album was called Gold Cobra . On April 30, 2010, the first song Why Try was released on their website. The song Walking Away was released on Twitter on August 8, 2010. Furthermore, many demos of songs such as B. Shark Attack , Douchebag or 90.2.10 have been published on the Internet.

Limp Bizkit performed seven times in Germany in 2010. On October 9th, they finished their European tour and continued their South American tour in Panama City, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires, among others.

On May 16, 2011 Limp Bizkit released the first single from their new album Gold Cobra , Shotgun , via Amazon, iTunes and other online music stores. On June 24, 2011 the band released their new album Gold Cobra .

New label (since 2011)

After Durst had announced in December 2011 that Limp Bizkit was separating from the Interscope label , it was announced in February 2012 via the homepage that they were switching to Cash Money Records . Shortly thereafter, Fred Durst announced on Twitter that the band wanted to produce two releases, the EP The Unquestionable Truth Part 2 and the sixth studio album Stampede of the Disco Elephants .

On April 1, 2012, the band announced on their official Facebook page that DJ Lethal and drummer John Otto were no longer part of the band. The reason for this, according to the band, was drug problems and their "destructive lifestyle".

On April 3, Fred announced that things were going in the right direction with John Otto. So Limp Bizkit only parted ways with DJ Lethal. Frank Carino aka DJ Skeletor replaced DJ Lethal as the tour continued. A decision about whether this might even be part of the band's line-up in the future was left open until the end of the tour. On October 12, 2012, it was announced that DJ Lethal was back in the band after he officially apologized. Shortly afterwards, however, he left the band again.

On March 24, 2013, the band released the song Ready to Go , in which Lil Wayne is a guest musician . This song is the first single for Stampede of the Disco Elephants , a new album to be released in 2015. The song was played in a live stream in 2010 in a version without Lil Wayne by Durst.

The sixth studio album, Stampede of the Disco Elephants , was due to be released in May 2015 , but it did not materialize because there were communication problems between frontman Fred Durst and Wes Borland. According to some sources, however, the band has been back in the studio since February 2016.
