Wes Borland , actually Wesley Louden Borland (born February 7, 1975 in Richmond , Virginia ) is an American musician.

life and career

He became known through his work as a guitarist for the nu-metal band Limp Bizkit . On stage he is eccentric and appears in various disguises. His black contact lenses are a visual trademark . The multi-instrumentalist is one of Limp Bizkit's figureheads alongside Fred Durst .

Borland took his first musical steps during his high school years with the band Goatslayer , which still exists as a side project under the name Big Dumb Face . In 1994 he co-founded the Limp Bizkit group , which enjoyed great success in the following years. After three released albums, Borland left the band on October 12, 2001. According to his own statements, the guitarist no longer felt comfortable in the Nu Metal music genre, which Limp Bizkit helped to define, and wanted to give his willingness to experiment more freedom. He tried to live out his artistic visions in his next band Eat The Day , but Eat The Day never released a debut album because the search for a lead singer failed.

In August 2004, Borland unexpectedly returned to Limp Bizkit and took over the post that Mike Smith (ex- Snot ) had previously held for a year. Even before the press release about this new development, the first pictures of the band in their original cast were made available for viewing on the official website during rehearsals, speculations about Borland's return to Limp Bizkit were circulating in the press worldwide within a very short time. Most of the fans were very excited about this announcement, as Borland had played a large part in the creative development process of the songs since the band was founded and his extraordinary guitar style had a strong influence on the Limp Bizkits sound.

In 2005 Borland formed the band Black Light Burns . Because of personal differences with Fred Durst and his new project, he left Limp Bizkit for a second time.

In 2006, the guitar and keyboard manufacturer Yamaha made Wes Borland's signature semi-acoustic guitar, the Yamaha CV820WB, tailored to his needs.

In mid-2008, Marilyn Manson announced at a press conference that Wes Borland would now play the guitar in his band at concerts.

In February 2009 Fred Durst and Wes Borland announced that Limp Bizkit would play again with the original line-up.

Borland released his instrumental solo album Crystal Machete on May 3, 2016 on his own record label Edison Sound .

Private

Borland is divorced three times. Most recently he was in a relationship with the musician Carré Callaway . He has two brothers, Scott Borland , who is also a musician, but with a focus on film music and sound design , and Jay Borland, who is a sound engineer.

Borland is a visual artist and is mostly responsible for the artwork for the Limp Bizkit albums.
