Fred Durst (* 20th August 1970 in Gastonia (North Carolina) as William Frederick Durst ) is an American singer , rapper and frontman of the band Limp Bizkit and director .

Thirst grew up in Gastonia , North Carolina with his stepfather , mother, and stepbrother. He joined the Navy after high school, but was released shortly thereafter at his own request. At the age of 20, Durst married and fathered a girl. He later caught his wife having sex with another man and a fight ensued. Durst then spent a year in prison. He then worked as a sponsored skateboarder before helping found Limp Bizkit in 1994 .

Musically Fred Durst was influenced by bands like Kiss , Blondie , Wu-Tang-Clan , Suicidal Tendencies , Smashing Pumpkins , The Cure and Tool . Furthermore, Kurt Cobain , frontman of the grunge band Nirvana , who died in 1994 , had a great influence on the musician. Durst directed most of his band's music videos, as well as the videos for Falling Away From Me by Korn , It's Been A While and Just Go by Staind, and Give by Cold himself. In the latter, he also played one of the leading roles with Jonathan Davis von Korn.

In 2000, Durst made the leap to Vice President of Interscope Records , a sub-label of Universal Music . He then founded the Interscope sub-label Flawless Records . In 2001, Flawless released the album Duke Lion Fights The Terror! Released by Big Dumb Face , the side project of Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland . Durst also signed the bands Puddle of Mudd and Revolution Smile . With the former he was able to record greater successes.

With Limp Bizkit, Fred Durst became one of the greatest rock stars of the late 1990s. Limp Bizkit had the breakthrough with a cover version of the hit Faith by George Michael from 1987. A large part of this had the television station MTV, from which the song was often broadcast. Other hits followed such as Nookie , Break Stuff , Take a Look Around , Rollin ' and My Generation .

In 2002 Durst was hired to write songs for Britney Spears . He later claimed to have had a relationship with her, which Spears denied. In February 2005, a private sex video of Durst that hackers had previously downloaded from his computer was posted on several websites. Thereupon Durst filed a claim for damages against the provider. On July 5, 2006, Durst announced on Limp Bizkit's MySpace blog that he had become engaged to Krista Salvatore.

In April 2007, Fred Durst presented his first film that he directed at the Tribeca Film Festival and received good reviews from well-known directors. Durst already starred in the short series Revelations , the thriller Population 436 and in the Dr. House - Double episode In the Head of House / In the Heart of Wilson a supporting role as a bartender.

In July 2009, Durst announced on Twitter that he had married Esther Durst. They had both got engaged three months earlier. In September 2009 he also announced the separation on Twitter: "For those of you inquiring I will confirm that Esther and I have decided to go our separate ways and we both thank you for your support." As only became known in 2015, he had Married the make-up artist Kseniya Beryazina from Ukraine in 2012 , but in April 2019 Durst filed for divorce. He has a daughter and a son from previous relationships.
