Snot is an American hardcore punk - / nu-metal - band from Santa Barbara , California .

history

Snot was founded in the summer of 1994 by Lynn Strait (front man, vocals), Mike Doling (guitar), "Ruben" (bass) and "Brent" (drums) (only the first names of "Ruben" and "Brent" are known). They began their career with concerts at summer festivals, but bassist "Ruben" left the band after the summer of 1995. He was replaced by John Fahnestock, who stayed with the band until the band split up in 1998. A little later there was another member change: drummer "Brent" was kicked out of the band because, according to Lynn Strait, he was "just a spoiled rich kid who only plays in a band to be cool". He was replaced by "Cornfed" (also no full name known), which was in turn replaced in 1996 by Jamie Miller. Only after this last member change did the band structure remain stable for a while.

The band gained recognition early on with a mixture of aggressive hardcore punk, metal and nu metal and so they got a recording deal with the Geffen label in 1996 and released their first album Get Some in 1997 . After the successful first album, the band structure again cracked, so that Sonny Mayo left the band in May and Jamie Miller in August 1998. They have been replaced by Mike Smith (guitar) and Shannon Larkin (drums). In the fall of 1998, Snot began recording another album in the studio. Before this was done, front man Lynn Strait had a fatal accident on December 11, 1998 in Los Angeles , in which his dog and band mascot, the boxer Dobbs, also died. Since the other band members found it pointless to keep the band up without Dobbs, Snot broke up in late 1998.

In 2000, the big names in the studio came together in the studio to complete the band's last incomplete album (vocals by Lynn Strait were missing) and thus produced the tribute album Strait Up , which is dedicated to Lynn Strait . On the album, the vocal part of the various tracks by Jonathan Davis ( Korn ), Fred Durst ( Limp Bizkit ), Brandon Boyd ( Incubus ), Corey Taylor ( Slipknot ), Serj Tankian ( System of a Down ), Max Cavalera ( Soulfly ) and Lajon Witherspoon ( Sevendust ) sung.

In 2002 a live album called Alive was released, on which the track Choose What? is included. This was the last track that Lynn Strait was able to give a test vocal part to before his death. In mid-2008, Snot decided to record a new album and brought former Divine Heresy singer Tommy Vext on board. In October 2014, the band announced Carl Bensley as a replacement for the resigned singer Tommy Vext.
