Massimiliano Antonio "Max" Cavalera (born August 4, 1969 in Belo Horizonte , Brazil ) is a Brazilian singer, guitarist and songwriter. He became better known as a founding member of the band Sepultura , which he left in 1996. Cavalera is currently active in three bands with Soulfly , Cavalera Conspiracy and Killer Be Killed , all of which he initiated and co-founded.

Career

Together with his brother Igor Cavalera , Max Cavalera founded the death / thrash metal band Sepultura in Belo Horizonte in 1984 and took over the role of singer and guitarist there .

In 1994 he recorded the album Point Blank with ex- Fudge Tunnel singer and guitarist Alex Newport as part of the Nailbomb side project . After a single appearance by Nailbomb in 1995 as part of the Dynamo Open Air in Eindhoven , where the live CD Proud to Commit Commercial Suicide was recorded, the project broke up as planned.

In 1996 there were disagreements within the band Sepultura with the manager at the time and later Mrs. Cavaleras, Gloria. The two then left the band and Cavalera founded the metal band Soulfly in 1997 .

In 2007 Cavalera reunited with his brother Igor for the first time and founded Cavalera Conspiracy with him .

With Greg Puciato ( The Dillinger Escape Plan ), Troy Sanders ( Mastodon ) and Dave Elitch (ex- The Mars Volta ) he founded another band in 2013 with Killer Be Killed , whose debut album of the same name was released in 2014 via Nuclear Blast .

Cavalera worked with a large number of well-known musicians of various styles. In 2006 he was a guest singer on Apocalyptica's best-of album Amplified . In the same year he was involved in Dave Grohl's project Probot with a vocal contribution to the song Red War . In 2008 he appeared as a guest singer on the hip-hop song War Is My Destiny with Ill Bill & Immortal Technique . In 2013 he recorded the title IMSin with Five Finger Death Punch for their new album The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 . In 2017 he made a guest appearance on Body Counts album Bloodlust.

Other collaborations include Deftones , Eyesburn , Roadrunner United , Snot, and Melechesh .

  • Max Cavalera doesn't use the high E and B strings on his guitar, which is why he calls his guitars "4-Stringz".
  • You are not forgotten - 1966 "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott - 2004 , a homage to his friend Dimebag Darrell , the former guitarist of Pantera , who was shot at a concert, is printed on his camouflage-look guitar .
