Troy Sanders
Troy Jayson Sanders (born September 8, 1973 in Atlanta ) is an American bassist and singer . He is a member of the bands Mastodon , Killer Be Killed and Gone Is Gone and previously played with Social Infestation .
Career
Sanders took his first steps as a bassist when he tried his brother's instrument at the age of 13. He tried to play the song "Lick it Up" by the band Kiss . Later Sanders got his own instrument and played in bands like Knuckle , Puaka Balava and Four Hour Fogger . In the latter band he played together with the guitarist Brent Hinds . In 1995, Sanders joined the grindcore band Social Infestation, with whom he released three studio albums.
In 2000 Sanders and Hinds met the musicians Brann Dailor and Bill Kelliher at a concert with the band High on Fire in Atlanta . The band Mastodon was founded together with the singer Eric Saner. After Saner left the band, Sanders and Hinds shared the vocals. With Mastodon, Sanders released six studio albums and received five Grammy Award nominations and one at the Loudwire Music Awards . Loudwire magazine named Sanders Artist of the Year 2017. In 2018 Mastodon received a Grammy in the Best Metal Performance category.
Troy Sanders joined the supergroup Killer Be Killed in 2013 , which was founded by Soulfly singer Max Cavalera and singer Greg Puciato from the band The Dillinger Escape Plan . The self-titled debut album was released on May 13, 2014. He also appeared as a guest singer for the bands Dozer and Yakuza and in 2015 took part in the Metal Allegiance project . A year later, Sanders founded the band Gone Is Gone together with members of the bands At the Drive-In and Queens of the Stone Age, who released their debut EP in July 2016 and their album Echolocation on January 6, 2017 . In the summer of 2019, Sanders will play with the band Thin Lizzy at some festivals in Europe.
Sanders is married and has two children. His brother Kyle Sanders is also a bass player and played in the band Bloodsimple , while his other brother Darren Sanders works as a roadie for Mastodon.
