Gone Is Gone is an American rock - Supergroup from Los Angeles , California that was founded in the 2016th

history

Drummer Tony Hajjar ( At the Drive-In ) and guitarist and keyboardist Mike Zarin , who had both been working together on soundtracks for trailers for films and video games since 2009, decided to start a joint project in 2012. Hajjar first contacted his friend, guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen ( Queens of the Stone Age ) in 2013 , after which they worked as a trio on various songs. From time to time Troy Sanders ( Mastodon ) flew to Los Angeles to do his part. The creation of Gone Is Gone was officially announced in April 2016. In the same year, a first self-titled EP was released in collaboration with Rise Records and the band's own label Black Dune Records , which was followed by the debut album Echolocation in 2017 . The album was composed as a quartet within a month in 2015.

Gone Is Gone were nominated for Best New Artist at the 2016 and 2017 Loudwire Music Awards . However, the prizes went to the bands Shallow Side and Greta Van Fleet . At the 2017 Metal Hammer Awards , Gone Is Gone was nominated for Best Debut Album, but the award went to the band Dool .

style

Ronny Bittner from Rock Hard stated in his review of Echolocation that the EP was still in the sludge and rock area, but the album was more atmospheric and moved between post and alternative rock . He drew a comparison with Puscifer and Palms . Sometimes a style of playing is used that is borrowed from noise rock . Nadine Schmidt of metal .de noted in her review to the album that the band no longer sounds as opposed to the EP, like a sluggish version of Mastodon. Instead, the group has found its own sound. Troy Sanders sounds like Peter Gabriel . The songs often have a progressive character and occasionally use elements from grunge . Songs like Roads would be reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails .
