Troy Van Leeuwen (born January 5, 1970 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American musician and current guitarist for the rock band Queens of the Stone Age .

Career

Van Leeuwen played in the band Failure from 1996 to 1997 and for 3 years for A Perfect Circle . After recording their third studio album , Van Leeuwen joined Queens of the Stone Age in May 2002 . He plays guitar , lap steel , keyboard and, during the 2005-2006 tour, also partially bass . Van Leeuwen was also involved in his bandmate Josh Homme's side project , the Desert Sessions . During a creative break in the Queens in 2008, Van Leeuwen devoted himself to his side project Sweethead and went on tour with his new band.

Instruments

Van Leeuwen (pronounced: Van Luhen): "I'll divulge one secret: I used nothing but hollowbodies on this record [Lullabies to Paralyze] - mostly a Gibson ES-135 and a Yamaha AES1500."

A Troy Van Leeuwen signature model has also been available in collaboration with Yamaha since 2006: Yamaha SA503 TVL Troy Van Leeuwen.

In 2013 the Troy Van Leeuwen Signature Jazzmaster was created in collaboration with Fender.

For the lapsteel guitar, Van Leeuwen uses instruments from the Chandler brand.
