biography
In 1982 Keenan went to the US Army , where he attended the United States Military Academy from 1983 to 1984 . In 1984 he left the army to pursue his musical career. In the following years he therefore attended the Kendall College of Art and Design in Michigan .
From 1989 Keenan was the singer of the punk band Green Jellÿ . In 1992 the EP Opiate was released by Tool. In 1993 the first album Undertow was released . After three years the album Ænima was released, which brought the band commercial success.
Before that he sang in 1992 with Know Your Enemy of Rage Against the Machine , whose album of the same name was released that same year. As a result, he became friends with the band, with whom he still appears occasionally today.
In 1994, he took with Tom Morello and Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine) and Billy Gould ( Faith No More ) under the band name Shandi's Addiction song Calling Dr Love for a tribute album with cover versions of songs by the hard rock band KISS on .
In 2000 the album White Pony was released by Deftones , where he can be heard on the song Passenger together with the lead singer of the Deftones, Chino Moreno. After disputes with the Tool label and its re-establishment, which granted Tool absolute artistic freedom, Keenan founded the band A Perfect Circle with Billy Howerdel and Paz Lenchantin . In the same year the band released the album Mer de Noms .
In 2001 Keenan released the long-awaited third album Lateralus with Tool - before that the special edition DVD or VHS Salival was released , which included all of the band's videos and some of the band's tour appearances. In addition, he played the devil in the 2002 film Bikini Bandits .
In 2003 the second A-Perfect-Circle-album Thirteenth Step followed , which should have been finished much earlier, but was delayed again and again due to an extended tool tour.
On November 2nd, 2004, just in time for the US presidential election , the concept album eMOTIVe was released with cover versions of famous peace and protest songs . This surprised the fans because the otherwise closed and introverted Keenan presented himself and his opinion in an exceptionally open manner.
In 2005 he sang at a charity concert in Seattle for the victims of the tsunami in late 2004 . In early 2005, the short film Sleeping Dogs Lie was released , in which he played a supporting role with Brad Wilk. The soundtrack comes from A Perfect Circle, among others.
In 2006 the fourth Tool album 10,000 Days was released . He also started his side project Puscifer .
In 2010 a documentary about himself and his mentor Eric Glomski as well as about his viticulture was published under the title Blood Into Wine . While the film was shown in cinemas in the USA, it was released directly on DVD in German-speaking countries in 2011 .
In 2018, A Perfect Circle's fourth studio album Eat the Elephant was released (the third with its own material).
In 2019 the long-awaited fifth album Fear Inoculum was released with Tool .
