Tim "Herb" Alexander (born April 10, 1965 in Cherry Point , North Carolina ) is an American drummer who was best known as the drummer for the rock band Primus . Alexander played on the Primus albums Suck on This , Frizzle Fry , Sailing the Seas of Cheese , Miscellaneous Debris , Pork Soda and Tales from the Punchbowl before he left the band in 1996 and was replaced by Bryan "Brain" Mantia . In the following years he was among other things the drummer of the Blue Man Group . In 2003 Alexander returned to Primus to record the EP Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People . Since 2013 he has been the official drummer of the rock band Primus again and recorded the album Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble in 2014 and the Primus album The Desaturated Seven released in 2017 .

Tim Alexander is characterized above all by his experimental and varied, very demanding style; he mixes fast double bass game with jazz -like fill-ins and percussive African rhythms.

Tim Alexander was the first drummer in the band A Perfect Circle .
