Ænima is a music album by the band Tool , which was released on October 1, 1996.
Origin of the title
The album title is a made-up word that comes from the term anima (from Latin: anima, -ae f 1. wind / air (breath) 2. soul), which was newly coined by the psychologist Carl Gustav Jung , and the English word for enema , "Enema", exists. The approximate meaning is "soul cleansing ": with an "enema" the intestine is cleansed, with an "Ænima" the soul. Alternatively, it can also be assumed that a soul is injected or allowed to flow into one if no soul or too little soul previously existed in a person.
successes
- Ænima reached number 2 on the Billboards Top 200 Album Charts and was awarded three times platinum by the RIAA on March 4, 2003.
- For the song Ænema Tool received the " Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 1998".
- In the list of 150 records for the eternity compiled by the German music magazine Visions , the album reached number 8.
- In the German edition of the list of the 500 best albums of all time compiled by the music magazine Rolling Stone , the album reached 238th place.
- In the novel Billy by Einzlkind , the record is described as "the best loud boys music album of all time".
particularities
In the first edition you can tilt images through the booklet as California "sink" can (compare here the lyrics of Ænema ) and eyes on the illustrated cover toward the Smokebox can wander. Later editions no longer have this effect. The European version contains “fake” covers of fictional tool albums in the booklet . The back of the booklet shows a portrait of Bill Hicks , an American stand-up comedian and friend of the band, who also conjured up the image of “sinking California” in his appearances. The song "Eulogy" is an obituary for him. The title “Die Eier von Satan” contains a recipe for hashish biscuits presented in German .
A video was made under the title "Stinkfist" (on MTV and VH1 it was called "Song # 1"). There was also a video for "Ænema".
