Life

Joey Castillo started playing drums at the age of 15 when his grandmother gave him a drum set. He was inspired by musicians and bands like Al Green , Led Zeppelin , Rolling Stones or Black Flag . He began his professional career in 1984 as a drummer with the Los Angeles punk band WASTED YOUTH . After recording two albums and a couple of tours, he formed the band Chronic Halitosis , which played punk cover versions of the Misfits and Black Flags. In 1994 Castillo became a member of the band Danzig and was part of the line-up of the band Zilch , a project by the Japanese guitarist Hideto Matsumoto . In 2002 Joey Castillo moved to Queens of the Stone Age , where he became a permanent member of the band after several changes of drummers, most recently Dave Grohl , before Grohl resumed his position at the end of 2012. In addition to the Queens of the Stone Age , Joey Castillo can also be seen again and again performing at Eagles of Death Metal , a side project of the band. As a studio musician, he also played drums on Mark Lanegan's album "Bubblegum".
