Palms is an American post-rock band from Los Angeles , California that formed in 2011.
history
The band was formed in 2011 by Jeff Caxide (electric bass), Aaron Harris (drums) and guitarist and keyboardist Bryant Clifford Meyer after their band Isis broke up. Drummer Harris had already accompanied the band Deftones as a drum technician on tour and got to know singer Chino Moreno . After the members had sent Moreno a demo and Moreno had returned the demo with his singing, he finally joined the band as a singer. In late 2012, the band went into the studio to record their self-titled debut album, which was released in late June 2013.
style
Andreas Schiffmann of musikreviews.de assigned the self-titled debut to post rock, whereby Moreno's vocals were expressionless and, in contrast to the works of Deftones, not aggressive. Markus L. wrote on the same page that the strengths lay more in the instrumental passages and less in the vocals. He also compared the band to Jeff Caxide's Crone project . The band describes itself as a "heavy, stargazing rock outfit". According to drummer Harris, the music also differs significantly from the previous band Isis: “[The songs have] a structure that we never had with Isis. There are verses and choruses - we wrote much more normal, quieter songs and experimented with things that we only touched on with Isis. "
