High road

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

High Road is a song by the American progressive metal band Mastodon . It is the first single from their sixth studio album Once More 'Round the Sun and was nominated for the 2015 Grammy Awards in the category Best Metal Performance .

Emergence

The song was written by guitarist Bill Kelliher . He was currently on a tour of Europe with his band . He was in Luxembourg on a day off . It was raining heavily and no business was open. In an interview with Revolver magazine , Kelliher stated that it felt like he was writing something that reflected his feelings. He took his guitar and started composing. He thought of a more subdued Neurosis or The Melvins with a trendy chorus . According to drummer Brann Dailor , the song has "angry lyrics" in which the protagonist "wants to see someone get destroyed".

A music video was shot for High Road , directed by Roboshobo (real name Robert Schober). The video shows some live roleplayers fighting with toy swords and pool noodles . Meanwhile, a young nerd tries to gain honor and fame for his family. The band itself cannot be seen.

reception

For Peter Kubaschk from the online magazine Powermetal.de , High Road contains a "strong hookline " and described the song as a "real summer hit". Zoe Camp from the online magazine Pitchfork Media described the music video as "a mixture of Karate Kid meets Napoleon, Dynamite meets Game of Thrones ". High Road was in 2015 for a Grammy in the category Best Metal Performance nominated, but the award went to Tenacious D . At the awards ceremony, Brann Dailor wore a blue suit with brightly colored balloons , while Brent Hinds wore a jersey from the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team . The Major League Baseball honored Hinds as bestangezogene person on the red carpet .
