Asleep in the Deep

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asleep in the Deep is a song by the American progressive metal band Mastodon . It is the third single taken from her sixth studio album Once More 'Round the Sun .

Origin and background

The idea for the song comes from guitarist Bill Kelliher . The bassist Troy Sanders described the song from the sound of her as Rock Roll 'n' for adult men. According to Sanders, the band could not have used this song on their debut album Remission as it shows a sign of the band's musical maturity. The text would describe deep and intense personal things without being specific. The song was recorded at Rock Falcon Studios in Franklin near Nashville with producer Nick Raskulinecz . The singer of the band Vailent Thorr Vailent Himself can be heard as a guest musician . According to Troy Sanders, he happened upon the studio and sang along with the chorus .

A music video was shot for the song . Video was directed by Rahim , assisted by Shane Morton and the artist Skinner , who designed the album cover for Once More 'Round the Sun.

“The concept arose from my curiosity about what cats actually do at night when we sleep. Where do you go? Cats are surrounded by a very mysterious secret and I thought it was cool to include that as little night heroes. I added a kind of hero myth based on Joseph Campbell and psychedelics based on Jodorowsky . "

- Skinner

Asleep in the Deep was released as a Picture Disc on October 23, 2015 . The A side features the song Asleep in the Deep , while the B side features an instrumental version of the song.
