Emergence

On February 11, 2012, the band played as part of their tour of their fifth studio album The Hunter at Brixton Academy in London . For the band it was the first concert at the Brixton Academy, which was sold out with 4,921 visitors. The concert was recorded and published as a live album. The band played 23 songs that evening as well as a guitar solo . In contrast to their first live album Live at the Aragon , where the band first played the entire album Crack the Skye , songs from all previous albums were played here. With the final song Creature Lives , the members of the two supporting acts Red Fang and The Dillinger Escape Plan came on stage.

The album was initially only released as a download and as a video . Ryan Mackfall directed the video version. On the occasion of Record Store Day in 2014, the album was finally released in physical form. Live at Brixton was released as a double LP with a DVD . The package was limited to 2,000 copies.

reception

Chris Conaton of the online magazine Pop Matters described Live at Brixton as a “well-made concert film by a band that gives their best on stage. The set list includes their entire career and would give anything to Mastodon fans what they need. " However, Conaton also criticized the setlist, which is no different from other concerts. Stephen Hardy of the online magazine Pure Grain Audio did not call himself a fan of live albums, but he still listened to the album six times in a day without getting bored. Hardy recommended the album especially to newcomers who can't go wrong with this album.
