Red Fang is an American sludge and stoner rock band from Portland , Oregon that was formed in 2005.

history

The band was founded in 2005 and played in 2006 a. a. with groups like The Melvins and Big Business . The band was able to increase its popularity significantly through music videos via YouTube in particular and received their first booking contract and the recording contract with Sargent House mainly through the video for the song Prehistoric Dog . The group consisted of bassist and singer Aaron Beam, drummer John Sherman, guitarist and singer David Sullivan, and guitarist and singer Maurice Bryan Giles.

The self-titled debut was released in 2008 by Wäntage USA and in 2009 by Sargent House. The band produced their second album Murder the Mountains with Chris Funk ( The Decemberists ), it was released in 2011 on Relapse Records . In the same year, the band also went on tour with Mastodon . The band also played in the opening act for Crowbar , Helmet , Megadeth , Godsmack and Disturbed .

In 2012 the band performed at the Wacken Open Air , Rockharz Open Air , Eier mit Speck , De-Affaire , and Greenville Festival . The band also went on tour with Black Tusk , playing in Greece, Russia and the Ukraine.

The third album Whales and Leeches , again produced by Chris Funk, followed in autumn 2013. It reached number 67 in the US album charts and number 42 in Finland . In the same year, the band also played at the With Full Force , Sonisphere , Download and festivals Hellfest , as well as Greenfield , Reload , Graspop Metal Meeting and Soundwave .

style

Thorsten Zahn from Metal Hammer heard influences from Black Sabbath and Queens of the Stone Age as well as influences from Rob Zombie and Motörhead on Murder the Mountains . On Whales and Leeches, according to Dominik Winter from Metal Hammer, the band play a mixture of stoner rock, punk and doom metal . Influences from groups like Black Sabbath, Mastodon, The Melvins, Motörhead and Kyuss can be heard on the album . In an interview with the rock music portal Loudwire, the band named Led Zeppelin , Ratt , No Means No , Simon and Garfunkel and Black Sabbath as the greatest musical influences.

Equipment

The main characteristics of the band's sound are the transistor and tube amplifiers from the Sunn and Orange brands :
