Many international acts and Australian bands of all genres, including rock , metal and punk bands , have performed at the festival since it was first held . The Soundwave Festival is organized by Soundwave Touring, which is also responsible for hosting the Harvest Festival .
history
The Soundwave was first played in 2004 in Perth , Western Australia as "Gravity Soundwave" at the same time as the Gravity Games . It took place in McCallum Park along the Swan River . The first sponsor of the festival was Vodafone . The first headliner of the two-day music festival was Good Charlotte . The next day, Unwritten Law , Regurgitator , MxPx and Lagwagon played on the Soundwave.
After the festival only took place in Perth in 2005 and 2006, the music festival expanded for the first time in 2007. In addition to Perth, the Soundwave was also held in Sydney and Brisbane . A year later, Adelaide and Melbourne were confirmed as additional locations. Today the Soundwave consists of five festivals. Although the first artists were confirmed for the Soundwave Festival in 2016, the organizer AJ Maddah canceled the festival. The reason was low ticket sales. It later emerged that several artists who played at the festival in 2015 had not received a fee for their performances. Artists announced for the festival in 2016 canceled performances a little later, including bands L7 and Bring Me the Horizon . Maddah said there wouldn't be a Soundwave in 2017 either.
