Glassjaw is an American post-hardcore band. The group comes from New York and was founded in 1994 by singer Daryl Palumbo , drummer Justin Beck, guitarists Todd Weinstock and Kris Baldwin, and bassist Ariel Telford. The band names groups like the Gorilla Biscuits and Godzilla films as a major influence .

history

The original lineup of Glassjaw was a teenage band rehearsing in their parents' basement. After many line-up changes, which were almost the order of the day later, a first EP was released in 1997 on a small independent label ( Kiss Kiss Bang Bang ). In 1999 the band played a demo tape with legendary hardcore producer Don Fury ( The Don Fury Sessions ). With his nu-metal productions have become known producer Ross Robinson , who is the turn of the millennium musical reoriented and expanded bands with hardcore -Background produced, they took the 2000 Roadrunner Records released debut album Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence on . At that time, previous gorilla biscuits drummer Sammy Siegler was also part of the group. After the release, the band wanted to leave Roadrunner to continue working with Robinson, who had ended his relationship with Roadrunner. This led to a dispute with the label, to which Glassjaw was contractually bound. Finally, an agreement was reached, and in 2002 the major label Warner released their second work Worship and Tribute , which reached number 82 on the Billboard charts . A popular music video appeared for the single Cosmopolitan Bloodloss , in which Vincent Gallo , who was a friend of the band, could be seen looking for the source of the disturbing noise and finally discovered the band on a street corner, whereupon he discovered the Group cut power.

In 2004, Todd Weinstock, Dave Allen and Larry Gorman left the band three members at once, they were replaced by former band members. A longer break followed.

Others

Glassjaw toured Europe several times, initially as support for Soulfly , and later as the main act. However, many appointments had to be canceled because singer Daryl Palumbo has been suffering from Crohn's disease for years ; In 2001, both the original dates planned in Germany and months later the catch-up concerts were canceled.

In particular, Palumbo is also active in other projects, especially his work with the pop band Head Automatica , with whom he released two albums between 2004 and 2006, received a lot of attention. He was also involved in the Roadrunner United label project, for which he recorded the piece No Way Out together with Joey Jordison , the drummer of Slipknot , despite the less than peaceful separation from Roadrunner .
