Ross Robinson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ross Robinson is a music producer , who is attributed a style-defining role in the development and development of Nu Metal , especially because of his work on the debut albums of Korn and Limp Bizkit .

Career

Before Robinson was first noticed by a larger crowd as assistant producer for the WASP album The Crimson Idol in 1993 , he worked as a thrash metal guitarist in a band called Murdercar , together with the later machine head drummer Dave McClain .

Beginning in 1994, Robinson slowly became the epitome of the sound maker of a new generation of rock and metal bands , especially after the worldwide success of the albums Korn and Life Is Peachy he had produced by the band Korn he had discovered, and rose to become one of the most sought-after music producers in the rock business on. Productions for Amen , Cold , Machine Head and Soulfly , among others , followed. On the Sepultura album Roots , which he also produced , Robinson can be heard as an additional percussionist on the song Ratamahatta in 1996 . In 1997 he took on Limp Bizkit's debut Three Dollar Bill, Yall $ , which also caused a stir around the world and paved the way for a variety of similar bands.

Towards the end of the 1990s, however, at the height of the Nu-Metal hype , Robinson distanced himself from the genre he had previously helped to build and accused the new bands of musical stagnation and irrelevance. With the production of the two Slipknot albums Slipknot (1999) and Iowa (2001) Robinson made a major contribution to the fact that this band is now one of the most popular hard acts worldwide.

Robinson continued to specialize in representatives of the so-called post-hardcore and recorded for the production of albums now regarded as milestones such as Relationship of Command from At the Drive-In , Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence from Glassjaw or ... Burn, Piano Island, Burn of The Blood Brothers .

On his own record label "I AM Recordings" Robinson released personal musical favorites, which were sold through large companies such as Roadrunner Records and Virgin Records . Among them were bands like Head Automatica or The Cure at times . Robinson has been running the “I AM Wolfpack” label since 2007, which, for example , brought Black Light Burns' debut onto the market.

Robinson was a co-founder and operator of New York nightclub The Plumm .

Of musicians who have worked with Ross Robinson, as vocalist Corey Taylor of Slipknot , the producer is often described as choleric and tyrannical in dealing with artists. Regarding the assertion of his own musical claims, Ross Robinson said in the 2013 documentary Sound City by Dave Grohl about himself: “ I like to go to the limit with songs. If I have to, I'll smash the guitar. I want it to rock right. “During the sound recordings with the metal band Slipknot, producer Robinson kept throwing potted plants at the band members, and another time Robinson threw a candle with hot wax against a wall.
