Slipknot is the debut album by the US Nu-Metal band Slipknot . It was released on June 29, 1999 by Roadrunner Records . It peaked at number 51 on the Billboard 200 .

Emergence

After the band demo mate in 1996 Feed. Kill. Repeat. had published and thus gained first attention from record companies, she wrote with the new singer Corey Taylor on more songs. In September 1998, recordings for the debut album began in Malibu , California, where the band had moved from their hometown of Des Moines , Iowa . At the end of 1998 guitarist Josh Brainard left the band, who had previously recorded the songs. It was not until February 1999 that the recordings with James Root were continued. Slipknot also created the identity of the band members, numbered from 0 to 8, as well as the masks worn at the appearances with which they earned their first fan base. The album reached platinum status as the first album on Roadrunner. Wait and Bleed and Spit It Out were released as singles in the same year , for which there were also music videos, as well as in France as a promo single Surfacing .

reception

Allmusic's Rick Anderson gave the album four out of five stars and the “AMG Album Pick” award. He highlighted the heaviness of the album, which clearly differs from bands like Limp Bizkit , and the "non-quotable" lyrics. Sonja Lattwesen from Rock Hard magazine wrote that the album's “damn loud background noise” made you “awake like a coffee in which the spoon is upright”. She alluded to stylistic influences from Thrash Metal , Death Metal , Industrial Metal , Hardcore Punk , Rap and Dub and awarded eight out of ten points.

In 2014, the album was ranked 87 on the list the 100 best metal and hard rock albums of all time of Rolling Stone .
