Joey Jordison (2008)

Joey Jordison (actually Nathan Jonas Jordison , born April 26, 1975 in Des Moines , Iowa , † July 26, 2021 ) was an American drummer and guitarist . He became known as the drummer for the band Slipknot and as the guitarist for Murderdolls . Later he was a member of the bands Scar the Martyr and Vimic.

Life

Jordison grew up in Waukee, a suburb of Des Moines . He liked to play basketball on the street in front of his house. He was interested in music from a young age, as his parents preferred to put him in front of the radio than in front of the television. He started playing drums when his parents gave him a drum kit for his eighth birthday.

Slipknot (1995-2013)

From him comes the name Maggots ( maggots ) for the fans of the band. Jordison commented that he found maggots useful and wanted to address the fans positively. At Slipknot , Jordison was number 1 (# 1). He is also credited with the design of the band logo (a nine-sided star) and the capitalized K in the band logo because he was a fan of the band Korn . His favorite song of the band was " (sic) ". He is on the cover of the first Slipknot album " Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. “To see him crouching naked in a cage. On December 12, 2013, the exit of Jordison was announced via Slipknot's official website. On January 2, 2014, Jordison contradicted this representation on his own Facebook profile.

Murderdolls (2002-2004, 2010-2011)

In addition to Slipknot, Jordison was the guitarist of the band Murderdolls . He had guest appearances on albums by Evil Justice and Marilyn Manson . The drummer was friends with the latter. Jordison can be seen in Manson's Tainted Love video clip. In return, Manson can be seen in the video clip "Dead in Hollywood" by the Murderdolls. In July 2013, Wednesday 13 announced in an interview that the Murderdolls will no longer record any more songs.

Scar the Martyr (2013-2016)

In April 2013, Jordison founded the band Scar the Martyr together with Jed Simon and Kris Norris . Together with Chris Vrenna and an unknown singer, work began on an album. On June 21, Scar the Martyr announced the collaboration with singer Henry Derek Bonner. The band broke up after an album and a US tour due to disagreements.

Side projects

Jordison took the diseased drummer of the Download Festival 2004 Metallica , Lars Ulrich . In the same year he also played on the American tour of Satyricon , because their drummer Frost did not get a visa.

Furthermore, he was one of the four "Team Captains" involved in the Roadrunner United - The All-Star Sessions album, which was released in October 2005 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the music label Roadrunner Records . For this album he wrote songs and played drums and bass.

In 2006, Jordison toured with Ministry as a drummer. On the Korn tour in the summer of 2007, he represented David Silveria on drums.

In August 2010, Joey Jordison was voted best drummer of the past 25 years by the music magazine Rhythm. In 2010, Jordison accompanied Rob Zombie on his tour.

On March 6, 2016, he announced that he had a new band called Vimic . In addition to Vimic, he had another death metal project called Sinsaenum , which released three singles.

Private and death

In an interview with Metal Hammer magazine in June 2016, Jordison said he dropped out of Slipknot due to a spinal cord disease called transverse myelitis .

Jordison died on July 26, 2021 at the age of 46.
