Wednesday 13
Wednesday 13 (actually Joseph Poole ; born August 12, 1976 in Landis, North Carolina ) is an American glam metal and horror punk musician.
He is currently the front man of his band named after him Wednesday 13 , and runs an outlaw country side project with Bourbon Crow , and a glam metal band with Gunfire 76 . He became known as the singer of the Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 and the Murderdolls .
Childhood and private life
Wednesday 13 grew up as the youngest son of an average American family. He was described as not very popular and was often treated badly by classmates in school. As a result, he spent a lot of time in front of the TV and developed a keen interest in horror films . This influences his writing style to this day. Half of his stage name comes from “Wednesday Addams”, the girl from the Addams Family , and half from the address of the Munster “1313 Mockingbird Lane”.
In addition to his musical career, he and his wife Roxanne designed the comic characters "Thirteen Dead Kids", for which a fashion collection was published. The accompanying comic was never published due to the lack of a publisher. In late 2007, around the time the album Skeletons was being recorded, Poole had a serious car accident in which he broke his collarbone .
Poole is divorced. He and his ex-wife Roxanne have a daughter named Zoe. Since then he has lived in Los Angeles.
Joseph Poole names Alice Cooper and Kiss as main musical influences .
Musical career
Poole began his musical career in 1992 as the front man of the music group Maniac Spider Trash , which only released one EP until 1996 . Then he and friends founded the band Frankenstein Drag Queens From Planet 13 . This group was always plagued by internal quarrels and member changes, but the Frankenstein Drag Queens released four albums , one EP and six singles until they were dissolved .
In 2002 Wednesday 13 joined the band The Rejects, founded by Joey Jordison and Tripp Eisen , as bass player. Shortly thereafter, The Rejects changed their name to Murderdolls , and Wednesday 13 became the group's lead singer. He used many songs by the Frankenstein drag queens for the Murderdolls , which led to renewed arguments with former bandmates who also founded a new horror punk band with The Graveyard Boulevard . Nevertheless, the Murderdolls' debut album, released in 2002, consists largely of newly recorded and slightly modified songs by the Frankenstein Drag Queens .
The Murderdolls achieved more success than Poole's previous bands and released the album Beyond The Valley Of The Murderdolls in 2002 through Roadrunner Records . Worldwide tours followed and Wednesday 13 became known to a wider crowd. On January 17, 2004, the Murderdolls played their last concert in California. The group then paused until 2010, as leading band members, such as guitarist Joey Jordison with his main band Slipknot , had other musical commitments. Nevertheless, the band members always emphasized that the Murderdolls were never a pure project, but a real band.
Wednesday 13 released a compilation by his former band in 2004 under the name Wednesday 13's Frankenstein Drag Queens . Most of the songs on this disc were re-recorded, with Wednesday 13 playing all the instruments himself, except for the drums. In 2006, the Frankenstein Drag Queens found each other again under their original name to play some live concerts. However, this re-establishment did not last and after the release of the box Little Box of Horrors , the group split again.
Since 2004, Joseph Poole has been working primarily on his solo career. With other musicians he founded the band named after him Wednesday 13 . So far it has brought it to four studio albums, one live album and two EPs. Persistent touring always followed. In 2005, Poole founded the outlaw country side project Bourbon Crow , this time under the pseudonym Buck Bourbon, together with Rayen Belchere, who had previously played bass in his band Wednesday 13 under the name Kid Kid . According to Poole, this is neither a pure fun project nor a country parody, but a serious side project.
In June 2009 Wednesday 13 announced the formation of the new band Gunfire 76 . He started this together with Todd Youth, formerly guitarist with Danzig and Samhain , today with Son of Sam . The group Wednesday 13 paused temporarily because Wednesday 13 wanted to dedicate itself to a different musical style with Gunfire 76 . In terms of sound, he would like to orient himself more towards Kiss , the Dead Boys , the New York Dolls and the Stooges . The debut album was recorded in July and was then released in October 2009.
In March 2010, Wednesday 13 and Joey Jordison announced the reunion of the Murderdolls . The second album of this formation, under the title Women and Children Last (dt. Women and children last ), was finally released in late August.
In June 2017 Wednesday 13 (band) released the album "Condolences", which received good ratings from most of the critics. The music oscillates between heavy industrial metal and creepy irony. When asked about the many useful hard riffs, Wednesday 13 answers in an interview with metal.de : "The riff doesn't have to be the most demanding in the world, the main thing is that it delivers something that you enjoy hearing."
