History of origin

While recording their second DVD Disasterpieces in 2002 , the band members were inspired to write their first live album after noticing that their live performances were very good, especially when it came to recordings. Two years later Slipknot started a world tour to promote their then current album Vol. 3: (The subliminal Verses). This tour included 233 concerts in 34 countries over a period of 28 months. The song recordings for 9.0: Live were made at concerts in Singapore , Tokyo , Osaka , Las Vegas , Phoenix , New York City and Dallas . Colin Richardson mixed the album.

In addition to songs from the first three albums Slipknot , Iowa and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) , 9.0: Live also contains the song Purity , which was removed from the band's debut album due to copyright infringements . Slipknot also played songs on 9.0: Live that are rarely played such as Iowa and Get This , as well as the first live performance of the track Skin Ticket .

promotion

Before the album was released, an excerpt from the live performance of the song "The Nameless" was made available for download on the Internet by Slipknot's record label. This song was later released as the only single, which is why a music video for the single with excerpts from the band's live performance was created for promotion.

On November 1, 2005, the day the album was released, Slipknot gave an autograph session at a Best Buy store in New York City. The album contains a 24-page booklet, which mainly shows individual band members.

Success and reception

Slipknot's first live album was generally well received by German and English-speaking media and fans, for example Alexander Cordas from Laut.de described the album as the official metal package in the greatest hits format. (Laut.de) The selection of titles, which is aimed primarily at the band's former fans, was also praised.

9.0: Live reached the top 20 of the charts in the USA and Austria and entered the charts in 6 other countries. The only single, "The Nameless", only entered the US mainstream rock charts, where it reached number 25. Nevertheless, the band was awarded gold in the USA for the album.
