Dave McClain (born October 24, 1965 in Frankfurt am Main ) is an American drummer .

McClain was born in the Hessian metropolis of Frankfurt am Main and lived in Wiesbaden for the first two years of his life . His father was stationed there as a member of the United States Air Force . McClain moved to Texas with his family and spent time in Hawaii . Back in Texas the band he joined Slayer from San Antonio to. Since the better-known, from Huntington Park- based band Slayer threatened with a lawsuit , McClains band renamed SA Slayer . McClain recorded a demo , an EP and the album Go for the Throat with SA Slayer . Then McClain switched to the band Catalepsy, which only brought it to three demos. In the following years McClain played in the bands Murdercar, Juggernaut, Ministers of Anger and Narita. During his time at Catalepsy and Murdercar, McClain played with guitarist Ross Robinson , who later embarked on a successful career as a producer .

In 1992 he joined the band Sacred Reich , where he succeeded Greg Hall. With Sacred Reich he recorded the albums Independent and Heal . After recording the Heal album, he left Sacred Reich and, on the recommendation of then Sepultura drummer Igor Cavalera, joined Machine Head , where he replaced Chris Kontos . His debut there came with a delay because he was involved in a car accident while recording the album The More Things Change ... and had to pause for weeks. McClain first took part in the band's songwriting on the album The Blackening from 2007. At the end of the Catharsis tour in November 2018, McClain left Machine Head together with guitarist Phil Demmel , and then returned to Sacred Reich.
