Phil Demmel (born April 1, 1967 ) is an American guitarist.

Career

Demmel made his first musical steps with the band Vio-lence , which was founded in 1985. After two demos , singer and guitarist Robb Flynn joined the band. After two studio albums, Flynn left the band in 1992 due to personal differences and founded Machine Head . Vio-lence released another album a year later before the band split up. Together with the bass player Dean Dell Demmel founded the band Torque , in which he also took over the vocals. Torque released a self-titled album in 1996. In 2001 Demmel released an album with the band Technocracy. Two years later the guitarist Ahrue Luster split from his band Machine Head and Demmel jumped in for some concerts in Europe as a replacement.

In March 2003 Demmel finally became a full member of Machine Head and recorded four albums with the band. In 2007 he played the album DDP 4 Life with Chuck Billy's and Steve Souza's band Dublin Death Patrol , but is no longer a member of this band. With the end of the Catharsis tour in November 2018 Demmel left the band Machine Head together with drummer Dave McClain . At the beginning of December 2018, Phil Demmel helped out for four concerts in Europe with the band Slayer and replaced Gary Holt , whose father was dying. Demmel also reactivated his old band Vio-Lence. Together with Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth ( Overkill ), Mike Portnoy (ex- Dream Theater ) and Mike Menghi, Demmel founded the band BPMD , which covers rock classics of the 1970s in thrash metal style. The debut album American Made was released in 2020.

Phil Demmel has been married to Marta Peterson since September 2012, who previously played in the band Bleeding Through Keyboard . In July 2016 his son Wolf Aequitas Demmel was born. Phil Demmel has suffered from cardiogenic fainting since the early 1990s . This is a disease in which the brain is temporarily supplied with insufficient blood and leads to a circulatory collapse. In autumn 2008 Demmel collapsed during two concerts and had to suspend several concerts.
