Elegies is the first Live - DVD of the American thrash metal band Machine Head . It was released in 2005 through Roadrunner Records .

Origin and background

The main part of the DVD is a recording of the concert Machine Head played on December 5, 2004 at the Brixton Academy in London . At the same point the band already recorded their live album Hellalive . For the first time in the band's history, pyrotechnics were used at a Machine Head concert . At the concert, the theme song from the American horror film The Omen was used as the intro . During the actual concert, Machine Head played a medley of covers from bands such as Sepultura , Metallica , System of a Down , Iron Maiden and Pantera . For copyright reasons, this medley cannot be seen on the DVD.

In addition to the concert, the DVD contains a documentary film about the creation of the studio album Through the Ashes of Empires , tour impressions and the music videos for the songs Imperium , Days Turn Blue to Gray and The Blood, the Sweat, the Tears . The band viewed over 300 hours of film material for the documentary and tour impressions. Originally the DVD was supposed to be titled Through the Ashes of England .

reception

Björn Backes from the online magazine Powermetal.de described Elegies as a reference work in the Thrash Metal genre in his review , as the band “adapted the climax of the last tour for these recordings”. For Rafael Hofmann from the online magazine My Revelations , Elegies should not be missing under any Christmas tree , but criticized the “confused camera work”. Yvonne Bielig from the online magazine Bloodchamber made an “unreserved recommendation not only for fans of the band, but also for lovers of energetic concert recordings” and awarded nine out of ten points, even if “a lush packaging and a few more songs would not have hurt”.
