BPMD is an American thrash metal band.

history

The band goes back to an idea of bassist Mark Menghi, who was sitting around a campfire one day listening to songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd and wanted to re-record this song with musician friends. Menghi brought overkill singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth, guitarist Phil Demmel ( Vio-lence , formerly Machine Head ) and drummer Mike Portnoy (including formerly Dream Theater ) on board. The band name stands for Blitz, Portnoy, Menghi, Demmel. According to Menghi, other options were also discussed, but the band wanted to focus on the 1970sFocus years where letter combinations for projects occurred frequently. As an example, Menghi named Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young , who were often referred to as CSNY .

In the summer of 2019, the musicians met in Mike Portnoy's home in Pennsylvania to a debut album with cover versions take. Each of the four musicians chose two songs from American bands from the 1970s, and the musicians together chose the two other tracks We're an American Band from Grand Funk Railroad and Walk Away from the James Gang . In addition, the choice fell on the bands ZZ Top , Aerosmith , Grand Funk Railroad, Blue Öyster Cult , Mountain , Cactus , Ted Nugent and Bloodrock , which were newly recorded in the style of Thrash Metal. As a promotion, the musicians recreated the cover image of the Van Halen album Women and Children First .

In March 2020 the band was signed by Napalm Records . At the same time the first concert was announced for May 30th in Old Bridge , New Jersey . The debut album American Made was released on June 12, 2020. In an interview with the German magazine Rock Hard , Mengi mentioned that the four musicians already had ideas for a similar album with bands from the United Kingdom and Germany .
