The hard rock formation Mountain was founded in 1969 in New York following the release of Leslie West's LP of the same name .

Band history

In addition to Leslie West (* 1945), Felix Pappalardi (1939–1983), Steve Knight (1935–2013) and Corky Laing took part in a project that saw itself as the successor to the legendary group Cream . Pappalardi was previously the producer of Cream's last three albums before that group split up. The band performed at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 . The successor group of Mountain, West, Bruce & Laing , had from 1972 with the bassist Jack Bruce (1943-2014) a former Cream musician.

On April 17, 1983, Pappalardi was shot and killed by his wife Gail Collins after an argument.

Mountain has been reformed several times, e.g. B. in 1985 with bassist Mark Clarke (formerly Colosseum and Uriah Heep ). The band changed its composition several times during the 1980s and 1990s and still exists today with the current line-up Phil Baker (guitar, vocals), Corky Laing (drums) and Joe Venti (bass, vocals). Mountain's repertoire today consists of both the classics of the late 1960s and early 1970s and new numbers. Leslie West is no longer there for health reasons.

style

Many pieces of the band were on the one hand characterized by extreme volume and heavily distorted guitar solos by West, on the other hand they also played lyrical ballads, which were carried by the soft voice of Pappalardi. Gail Collins contributed a number of texts as well as individual cover drafts.
