West, Bruce & Laing

Jack Bruce and Leslie West, Hamburg 1973

West, Bruce and Laing was a rock formation made up of members of the American hard rock band Mountain and the former British blues rock band Cream .

As you can see from the band name, the trio, founded in 1972, consisted of Leslie West (mountain, guitar and vocals), Jack Bruce (cream, bass and vocals) and Corky Laing (mountain, drums). The band saw themselves as a blues-oriented hard rock power trio whose repertoire consisted of both their own compositions and Cream numbers. In the very short time of just 18 months, the group produced two studio albums: Why Dontcha and What Ever Turns You On , as well as a live album entitled Live'N'Kickin '. Although the band was reasonably popular and the concerts were well attended, they could not build on the great successes of their respective predecessor bands and were almost forgotten after they broke up.

West, Bruce and Laing were characterized by a "fat" and powerful, always blues-stressed hard rock sound, which inspired many musicians during this time. Her best-known hits include: Why Dontcha? , The Doctor , Backfire and the Cream classic Politician .
