The Cabeço Gordo , in free translation from Portuguese fat head , is the highest mountain on the island of Faial , Azores . It belongs to the municipality of Capelo .
The crater rim of the volcano rises to a height of 1043 m, the Caldeira has a diameter of 2 km and the basin drops steeply 400 m. This main crater shapes the island of Faial, but is only part of a herd migrating in a westerly direction. The last eruption occurred in 1957/58, creating the 2.4 km² Capelinhos .
