Women and Children First is the third studio album by the American rock band Van Halen , which was released on record on March 26, 1980 on the Warner Bros. label . The album went triple platinum in the US.
history
Women and Children First is the first Van Halen album to consist entirely of self-written pieces. With the album the band got a little more serious musically and lyrically, in contrast to their more party-oriented predecessors. The album was recorded in just two and a half weeks. Most of the songs were recorded "live" in the studio, little overdubs were used. The "Invasion" tour followed, which was even more successful than the tours for the previous albums. Nicolette Larson did the backing vocals on Could This Be Magic?
Success and criticism
Like its predecessor, the album reached number 6 on the Billboard 200 . The only single, And the Cradle Will Rock ... , placed 55th on the Billboard Hot 100 . Stephen Thomas Erlewine from the Allmusic.com website praised the improved songwriting , which is reflected in pieces such as the "Neo- Boogie " song Fools and the "manic" Loss of Control . The album was rated 4.5 out of 5 stars.
