Van Halen II is the second studio album by the American rock band Van Halen . It was on March 23, 1979 on the label Warner Bros. released on record. The album went five times platinum in the US.

history

Van Halen II consists partly of pieces that already existed before the recording of the debut. They are included in different versions of demos made in 1976 with Gene Simmons ( Kiss ) and 1977 with Ted Templeman . The album was recorded and released less than a year later after its debut. Just 48 hours after the end of the first tour, the band went into the studio in January 1979. The album was recorded in ten days. There were only overdubs on three tracks. Edward Van Halen recorded an acoustic piece for the record with Spanish Fly .

Success and criticism

The album peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200 . The two singles Dance the Night Away and Beautiful Girls were also quite successful with 15th and 84th place. Stephen Thomas Erlewine called the album almost a carbon copy of the first album. However, the single releases are “easier” and “funnier” than anything on the debut. The album was rated 4 out of 5 stars.
