Ted Templeman

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ted Templeman (* 24. October 1944 in Santa Cruz , California ) is an American rock music - producer who primarily for his work with Van Halen and the Doobie Brothers became known.

biography

Templeman began his music career as a drummer in various locally known bands. He later joined the Tikis, who renamed themselves Harper's Bizarre in 1966 . In addition to his work as guitarist and singer for the group, he also helped Lenny Waronker , the producer of Harper's Bizarre, in the studio.

When Harper's Bizarre split in 1970, Waronker Templeman offered a position as a producer with Warner Brothers Records . At the end of the year he took a then unknown Californian band under his wing, called the Doobie Brothers. The debut album flopped, but the follow-up album Toulouse Street was a complete success. Templeman produced all of the band's other albums that appeared on Warner Brothers.

Templeman also produced several successful albums for Van Morrison , Captain Beefheart , Little Feat and Montrose during this period. In 1977 he brought a hard rock band called Van Halen to the Warner Bros. label, which he discovered in a club in Hollywood . By 1984 Templeman produced all of the band's albums.

This was followed by works by ex-Van Halen musicians David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar , as well as LPs by Eric Clapton and Aerosmith . At the end of the 1980s, the success of Templeman's productions slowly ebbed away, even if he was still active in the music industry into the 21st century.
