Life Is Peachy (English for: " Life is great ", peachy = literally: " peach-like ") is the second studio album by the US Nu-Metal band Korn . It was released on October 15, 1996 by Immortal and Epic .

Emergence

After a few joint appearances with the Deftones , the band went into the studio with Ross Robinson in Malibu in April 1996 to record the follow-up to their highly regarded debut album. As usual with the band, the songs were worked out together, the lyrics mostly come from Jonathan Davis .

Music genre

Overall, the album was described a bit more “metallic” than its predecessor. There are influences of alternative metal , especially groove metal . Brute guitar riffs alternate with quieter, rhythmically complex passages dominated by a subdued bass like Swallow or Porno Creep .

With Wicked a cover by Ice Cube is included, on which Chino Moreno from the Deftones can be heard. The song ADIDAS - the title stands for " All Day I Dream About Sex " - was the second single after No Place to Hide and the only official video for the album. The abbreviation was also a tribute to the German sporting goods manufacturer Adidas, who were favored by the band in their early days . The album reached number three on the Billboard 200 , in Germany number 85, in Austria number 21.

reception

Jan Jaedike criticized the album in Rock Hard magazine . Korn played "mostly boring psycho-rumble rock", the entertainment value of which was kept within limits. He awarded four out of ten points. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic praised the improved songwriting compared to its predecessor, but criticized the fact that the pieces are sometimes not particularly catchy. The band lives from their angry, "fat" (" visceral ") sound. It awarded three out of five stars. Life Is Peachy was the first Korn album to make it into the German album charts (number 85). To date, the album has been sold more than 6 million times worldwide.
