James Christian "Munky" Shaffer (born June 6, 1970 in Rosedale ) is an American guitarist . He became famous in particular because of his work for the nu-metal band Korn .

Career

Shaffer began playing the guitar in his youth on the recommendation of a doctor after his fingertips were cut off in a bicycle accident. The doctor hoped that the therapy would be successful due to the fine motor skills involved in playing a guitar.

According to Shaffer, he was not accepted by Korn because of his particularly good musical skills, but simply because the then still young Brian Welch and Reginald Arvizu found his long hair so suitable.

In 2007 Shaffer founded his own record label "Emotional Siphon Records", with which he wants to give hip-hop , rock and jazz artists the chance to make a living from their own music. Since 2008 he has been working on a project called Fear and the Nervous System with prominent support from Faith No More bassist Billy Gould and Bad Religion drummer Brooks Wackerman . October 2011 the album was released as a download. Despite this sideline, he has declared that he will remain a member of Korn.

Shaffer married in January 2000 and has a daughter from this marriage. He has been married to Evis Xheneti since January 2012.
