LAPD was an American punk band from Bakersfield , California. It is considered the predecessor band of the Korn group , as the four members of the last lineup were all founding members, but the bands are musically rather dissimilar.

Band history

The group was founded by Richard Mortill ( vocals ), Brian Welch ( guitar ), Reginald Arvizu ( bass ) and James Shaffer (guitar). According to Arvizus, the name does not mean “Los Angeles Punk Department”, as it is often incorrectly called, but “Love and Peace, Dude”.

They started out as a school group and played in smaller clubs and at local events. At such an event they met the then 13-year-old David Silveria ( drums ), who was immediately accepted into the band. After they got a record deal with X-Mortal Recordings in 1989 and released their first EP, Richard Mortill left the band and Brian Welch took over the vocals.

In 1991 they released their first LP Who's Laughing Now? out and after a two-year tour through the punk clubs of the USA they took the singer of the band "Sexart" ( Jonathan Davis (rock musician) ) into their band.

In 1993 the band renamed itself Korn and signed a seven-record deal with Epic Records.

In 1997, X-Mortal Recordings released an album ( LAPD ) with all the songs from the band's two previous releases.
