Untitled Korn III - Remember Who You Are
(2010)

Untitled is the unnamed eighth studio album by the US nu-metal band Korn and was released on July 27, 2007. It is the first album in Korn history without their original drummer and founding member David Silveria .

background

Korn began work on the new studio album in October 2006 and signed with producer Atticus Ross, who also co-produced the previous album "See You On The Other Side". Keyboardist Zac Baird also takes part in the recording process.

Singer Jonathan Davis said in mid-November 2006 that the band had already written 18 new songs for the new album and would like to try and do "other things" on their new album.

On December 13, 2006, drummer and founding member David Silveria announced during the recording process that he would be taking a temporary break. The resulting rumors that the band might split up were denied a few days later by Jonathan Davis and instead announced that Korn would write and record the new album with three people despite the lack of a drummer.

In January 2007 it was announced that Korn would work with drummer Terry Bozzio on the new album. Then some songs were recorded with the substitute drummer.

On April 4, 2007, however, the fansite "Kornspace" surprisingly announced that Terry Bozzio would no longer work with Korn for undisclosed reasons and on April 11, 2007 the management of Korn announced that he had ended his work with the band.

Brooks Wackerman of Bad Religion and singer Jonathan Davis contributed to the drum sound of the remaining songs .

On July 31, 2007, the album was released through Virgin Records .

Singles and meaning of the lyrics

The first single Evolution was released on July 23, 2007. It reached number 18 on the dance / club and number 20 on the alternative charts in the US, and number 114 on the UK singles charts. The topics of environmental pollution and the destruction of the earth are dealt with.

The second single Hold On reached number 35 on the American alternative charts. Like the song Starting Over , it is about Jonathan Davis' almost fatal blood disease from the summer of 2006.

Innocent Bystander is about the political lethargy under the former US President George W. Bush .

Ever Be and Love and Luxury are about the departure of former Korn guitarist Brian Phillip "Head" Welch .

Chart successes

The album reached number 2 on the Billboard charts and number 3 on the German charts.

There were further top ten placements in Finland (2nd place), Austria and New Zealand (3), Canada (5), France (8) and Switzerland (9).

Other notable placements were in Australia (11), Great Britain (15), Sweden (17), Norway (24) and the Netherlands (32).

Untitled was awarded the gold record in the USA on October 30, 2007 .

criticism

The reviews varied.

"The new disc delivers a handful of hits and can therefore be seen as a step forward compared to" See You On the Other Side "and" Take A Look In The Mirror "."

- Benjamin Buntzel, Laut.de

“KORN are trying to reposition themselves on“ Untitled ”without completely renouncing their identity. There are still some confused moments ("killing"), but the overall impression is much more positive than last. "

- Stormbringer.at

"Your new, untitled album shows Korn again with an innovative strength that even surprises Korn in this form."

- Metal hammer

“Whereby grain sound so fresh, vital and powerful than it has been for a long time. Old heroes in the second spring! "

- Marcel Anders, EMP

“The juice is out, the power is gone for a long time and the (vocal) melodies that were once so great have largely gone to the wind. ... The will to break new ground is all well and good, but what the Americans have made here is half-baked stuff. "

- Metal.de

“In truth, you can only laugh at the cheap, fat electro bubbling, the paste keyboards, the alibi strings, the self-stolen riffs and the piano ballad (sic!)“ Kiss ”or the band's breakup suggest. "

- Jan Wieger, Der Spiegel
