The Path of Totality ( English for: "The path of the whole") is the tenth studio album by the US Nu-Metal band Korn . It was released on December 2, 2011. The album was produced by nine dubstep artists and differs from the previous style of the band.
Emergence
The first single Get Up! , a cooperation with the dubstep producer Skrillex , was released on April 14, 2011 and was only available as a download. By September 2011, over 150,000 downloads had been sold. The song was first performed after Jonathan and Munky went to Skrillex on stage in the dance tent at the Coachella Festival and played the song there - unannounced. Work on the tenth album began in March 2010. The album should be a mix of metal , dance and dubstep elements from the start. The music producers involved are Skrillex, Kill the Noise , Noisia , Feed Me , 12th Planet , Flinch, Datsik , Downlink and Excision . Korn announced the title The Path of Totality on August 27, 2011 and December 2, 2011 as the release date for the new album. The album previously ran under the working title X as an allusion to the fact that the album is the tenth in Korn's career. In addition to the standard version of the album, with eleven songs, a deluxe edition was also released, which includes the two bonus tracks Fuels The Comedy and Tension . There is also a bonus DVD entitled “The Encounter”. The DVD shows a concert by the band in the middle of a crop circle at Korn's home in Bakersfield, California. So far, the show has only been shown in abridged form on television and online. In addition to Get Up! were released as singles Narcisstic Cannibal , Way Too Far and Chaos Lives In Everything . Music videos were also produced for all singles.

reception
Metal Hammer's Sebastian Kessler called The Path of Totality an album with ups and downs. He praised the band's willingness to experiment and their striving for something different. He awarded five out of seven possible points. Simon Langemann from laut.de rated the experiment as unsuccessful and attested the album to be unimaginative. He awarded two stars out of five. Ronny Bittner from Rock Hard also said that the level of the pre-single Get Up! could not quite be kept to album length. He missed the reef power and brutality typical of Korn. He awarded seven out of ten possible points.

The Path of Totality Tour started already on 3 November 2011 in the US. In the end, it consisted of six sections. Three legs in North America, two in Europe and one in Asia. Special features of the presented set lists were that the songs were arranged chronologically. First songs from the first two studio albums Korn and Life Is Peachy , as well as rarities that did not make it onto these albums, such as Proud , who had never tried live before, were played. This was followed by songs from the new album The Path of Totality , then the biggest hits and finally an encore. Guest musicians were Elijah Blue Allman , who performed the song Somebody Someone with the band at a concert in Oberhausen . When the band played at the Carolina Rebellion Festival on May 5th, they performed the song Blind with original guitarist Brian Welch . It was the first joint appearance with the band after he left in 2005. During the second European leg, bassist Fieldy dropped out briefly to be with his pregnant wife. At the following concerts he was represented by Ryan Martinie , who was known for his activities at Mudvayne . At another concert in Germany, in Püttlingen, the German comedian Bülent Ceylan was brought on stage for the performance of Got the Life . He had previously invited the band to his show , where they performed the song Get Up! performed with him as a bass player. In addition, some concerts were opened by the participating Dupstep artists. They often performed The Path of Totality bonus tracks Tension and Fuels the Comedy accompanied by singer Jonathan Davis .
