The paradigm shift (English for. " The paradigm shift ") is the eleventh studio album by American nu-metal band Korn . It was released on October 8, 2013. The album was produced by Don Gilmore and, for the first time since Take a Look in the Mirror (2003), founding member and guitarist Brian Welch is again involved. Musically, the album traces back to Korn's origins, while the band has been more experimental in the last few albums.

background

A year after The Path of Totality was released , the first ideas for a new Korn album were voiced. On May 2, 2013, the band announced that founding member Brian "Head" Welch had rejoined the band and, after an eight-year hiatus, would be involved in the recording of the new album.

The first single Never Never was released on August 12, 2013. The title Love & Meth leaked on August 12, 2013, well before the album was released. The title Lullaby for a Sadist was written in 2010, but did not appear on the 2011 album The Path of Totality because it no longer fit into the concept of the dubstep-heavy album.

style

Stylistically, the album is based on Korn's origins, before the band began to move away from their typical style from the album See You on the Other Side (2005). Nevertheless, traces of dubstep can still be found on this album, which dominated the previous album The Path of Totality . So was Noisia z. B. Involved in the song Spikes in My Veins .

According to Korn guitarist Brain "Head" Welch, the album sounds like the original Korn with new elements ("It sounds like old Korn. But it sounds like 2013 old Korn, because there are new elements mixed in.") Munky Shaffer sees in the album bonds from the albums Issues (1999) and Untouchables (2002). The album is a bit more melodic and a bit more aggressive at the same time. ("The new music is inspired by our Issues album, or even Untouchables, that era. It's a little more melodic and a little more aggressive at the same time.")

It contains a number of interviews with the band members as well as short clips that were created during the recording of the album.
