Terry John Bozzio (born December 27, 1950 in San Francisco , California ) is an American drummer .

Career

He attended Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo , California. Bozzio became known through his work with Frank Zappa (including his appearance in the concert film Baby Snakes ) and finally with the band UK . He is famous for his performances of the play The Black Page (German: The black side ) that Zappa had originally written to test musicians. The piece is considered a “musician's nightmare” because it is so musically dense that the sheet of music is almost completely black. Another example is his vocal duel with Zappa in the piece Titties & Beer (album Zappa in New York ).

Bozzio is known for his particularly large and particularly large number of parts.

He lives in Austin .

Musical participation

Bozzio founded the group Missing Persons with his then wife Dale Bozzio ( vocals ), the two former Zappa musicians Warren Cuccurullo ( guitar ) and Patrick O'Hearn ( bass ) and Chuck Wild ( keyboard ).

The musical spectrum of the drummer is wide. It is reflected in the collaboration with different bands and musicians. These include Duran Duran , Jeff Beck , Chad Wackerman , Steve Vai , Steve Stevens , Tony Levin , Pat Mastelotto , Robbie Robertson , Gary Wright , Don Dokken , Paul Hyde , Herbie Hancock , Dweezil Zappa , Richard Marx , The Knack , KoЯn and Fantômas . The album Guitar Shop (1989), which was created with Jeff Beck and Tony Hymas , won a Grammy Award in 1990 .
