Bernd Goetzke

Bernd Goetzke (* 1951 in Hanover ) is a German pianist .

Life

At the age of 13 he was admitted to early studies at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media . Until the concert exam (1975) he was a student of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling . From 1969 to 1977 Goetzke worked intensively with Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli , who called him his last student, and lived for a time at Michelangeli's Berghof in northern Italy. Goetzke also took part in Beethoven courses with Wilhelm Kempff and Claudio Arrau .

Appointed professor himself in Hanover in 1982 , he increasingly devoted himself to promoting young talent. In 2000 he founded the institute for the early support of the musically gifted , a course that is unique in Germany. Like his teacher Kämmerling, Goetzke is one of the most sought-after piano teachers and jurors .

Since 2011, Bernd Goetzke has been leading the piano masterclasses of the International Music Academy for Soloists (IMAS) that take place every autumn at Schloss Bückeburg . He also works as a lecturer at various other master classes, for example at the Unterelbe Piano Days in Stade . Goetzke is particularly fascinated by the piano music of the 20th century. In many concerts and recordings he plays Debussy , Messiaen , Bartók , Skrjabin , Schönberg , Gershwin and others. a.

In 2018, Debussy's letters to his publishers appeared for the first time in German, translated and edited by Bernd Goetzke. The painter Ernst Marow recorded Goetzke's special connection to Debussy in an oil painting from 2011: He portrayed Goetzke in front of a piano painted in blue-black tones, on whose music stand the signature Debussy is written.
