The International Music Academy for Soloists (IMAS) is a music school in Hanover with master courses for highly talented young soloists who are aiming for an international career. It is one of the leading training centers for soloists in Germany. The courses offered change annually in the subjects piano , violin , singing , violoncello , horn and chamber music .

Activity and organization

Professors from the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and other experienced musicians teach the students in Schloss Bückeburg . So far, IMAS has supported more than 1000 highly talented students from 35 nations (as of 01/2014).

The nine-day individual courses start in autumn and end with a final concert in the ballroom of the palace. In order to keep the cost of participation low, the students live with citizens of Bückeburg during the courses. The board of the sponsoring association consists of Ulrike Fontaine (chairwoman), Peter Christoph Loewe (deputy chairman), Ines Gräfin von der Schulenburg (finances), Bernd Goetzke (artistic director) and Alexander zu Schaumburg-Lippe (honorary chairman). The board of directors is supported by a seven-person board of trustees. The pianist Boris Kuznetsov is responsible for project management.

The IMAS is funded by the Sparkasse Schaumburg , the Stadtwerke Schaumburg-Lippe, the Schaumburger Nachrichten , the piano maker Grotrian-Steinweg as well as the Fritz-Behrens-Stiftung and other foundations.

history

The non-profit sponsoring association, International Music Academy for Soloists eV, was founded in 1978 by Reimar Dahlgrün , professor emeritus at the Hanover University of Music, together with colleagues. For the first ten years, teaching was held in the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel . In 1986, Alexander Fürst zu Schaumburg-Lippe brought the academy to Bückeburg Palace. In 1982 Gotthard Kronstein took over the executive chairmanship.

Karl-Heinz Kämmerling was responsible for the overall artistic direction for around three decades. Bernd Goetzke became his successor at the end of 2010.
