Charlotte Lehmann

Charlotte Lehmann (born January 16, 1938 in Zweibrücken ) is a German concert singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher .

She studied in Saarbrücken with Sybille Ursula Fuchs and then privately with Paul Lohmann .

Career as a concert singer

She worked as a concert singer until 1982. In addition to concerts and recordings for all major German radio stations, she played a. a. Works by Johann Sebastian Bach , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Robert Schumann , Hugo Wolf , Gabriel Fauré , Claude Debussy , Paul Hindemith and Arnold Schönberg .

For her interpretation of songs by Debussy and Schönberg on the major label EMI , she was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize in 1982.

Work as a singing teacher

As a singing teacher , she first taught at the Hanover University of Music from 1972 and from 1988 as a full professor of singing at the Würzburg University of Music . Today she gives master classes for concert and opera singers around the world .

Her lessons are based on the principles of music kinesthesia , which she developed together with her husband Ernst Huber-Contwig .
She has published annotated collections of
arias by Mozart and Bach for teaching practice .

Her students included B. the bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff , the mezzo-soprano Lioba Braun and the contralto Maria Kowollik .

Expert activity

Charlotte Lehmann was President of the Association of German Singing Teachers from 1994 to 2000, of which she is Honorary President today. She was also the chairwoman of the specialist committee of the National Singing Competition in Berlin .
